TOPIC: DISHONOUR- THE KILLER OF FAVOUR
Scripture: 1 Samuel 2: 30. Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
Beloved, I welcome you to another Moment of Daily Encounter! In continuation of what we started yesterday; we established that honour is key to provoking favour! The reverse is the case with dishonour, Today, we shall be looking at what dishonour can do to your your favour.
What is dishonour?
Dishonour is trivializing the values and usefulness of a person, principle or God.
So, if you don’t value the usefulness of certain individuals in your life especially your parents (biological and spiritual) and you extend to godly principles and to God the creator of the universe then you have destroyed the favour you should enjoy with your own hands.
Favour runs on the wheels of honour. So also disfavour runs on the wheel of dishonour. A good example is the house of Eli- a house ordained to enjoy the favour of God but they lost it all because once you dishonour God every other things will start working against you to ensure you never enjoy favour any more.
How does dishonour kills your favour?
From our anchor scripture (1Sam.2:30); God speaking said:
..for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.
This particular statement came because the house of Eli were operating in dishonour. They were enjoying the favour of priesthood, until dishonour to God set in, the result is that God throw them out of the priesthood. One way Eli’s children dishonour God was refusal to acknowledge God as the one who kept them priest over his children and then living in blatant disobedience to the word of God that set up the priesthood office.
Beloved, one cheap way to get out of favour with God is to walk in dishonour. And many of God’s children dishonour God daily by refusal to acknowledge God as the Finger behind the happenings in their lives. Every time you fail to show appreciation to God, we simply communicate dishonour without knowing and we are gradually closing our door of favour without knowing.
Beloved, when God blesses you with gifts and talent give Him thanks for it. When God passes through your hands to achieve certain results appreciate Him for it. To keep the door of favour opened, maintain an attitude of gratitude.
Besides, living in sin, disobedience to the word of God further complicated Eli’s children problem (1Sam.2:12-17, 22-25)! Just as established previously that it is the righteous that God will surround with favour(Ps.5:12, Heb.1:9) not the unrighteous that lived in disobedience.
Dishonour bring curses as the following curses came upon the house of Eli as a result of dishonour:
1. Loss of inheritance (1Sam.2:30-31), it is the inheritance of the descendants of Aaron to be priests forever as promised by God in Exo.29:9! However dishonour made God to change His mind.
Beloved, has God promised you anything, please ensure you maintain the path of honour. Dishonour can abort the prophecy over your life. It can make you to loose your inheritance quickly. You must have seen families that poverty forced them to sell their inheritance, that is a sign of a curse.
2. Poverty (1Sam.2:32): The curse of poverty made all that will be born into the house of Eli to experience poverty by reason of being born into that family. There are those who don’t believe that poverty is a curse. For you to be in the midst of plenty where others are getting blessed and you are left behind, something is wrong.
3.Untimely death(1Sam.2:33): Most untimely death is as a result of dishonour! And God told Eli the same day his two sons will die and it came to pass!
Beloved, don’t die before your time! Let the word of God produce what it talks about in your life. Don’t claim ‘I shall not die’ while you are breaking the scriptures.
The same God that promised to satisfy you with long life can as well withdraw His hand and permit the devil to overrun things just because you are violating the scriptures. Honour gives favour but dishonour gives disfavour and bad luck.
Remember this: Heaven is real and hell is real. Have you settled your place of where you will spend eternity? Do it today by surrendering to Jesus.

Assignment: Check every area you have been walking in dishonour and repent of it today.
